SFMN Case Studies
The mission of the Sustainable Forest Management Network grant
"Commercial Development of NTFPs and Forest Bio-Products: Critical Factors for Success,"
is to develop and
apply methods for analyzing the factors that influence successful commercial development of
NTFPs and bio-products by Aboriginal and other rural communities in Canada and the social costs
and benefits of commercial development.
The results of this study will lead to policy evaluation and recommendation in an attempt to
more effectively diversify and develop rural and Aboriginal communities, and mitigate the
negative impacts of commercialization on subsistence, traditional and recreational values of
non-timber forest products.
